Bug's eye view

Show kids the tiny world whirling by right under their toes.

You'll Need

  • Child's magnifying glass

Time

30 minutes

Children are naturally curious. As parents we can foster this curiosity so that it turns into a lifelong love of discovery and learning. Get your child a magnifying glass (many are made out of plastic) and go with her to look for bugs in the backyard or park. Once you have a bug to investigate, ask your child questions about what she observes. Rather than point out what you see, try asking questions and listening to her talk about what she notices. You can pose questions like, “Why do you think the ladybug is red?” Knowing the reason is not as important as thinking about the question and having a discussion.
