Garden lab
In preschool, science concepts focus on plants, animals and weather. At home, reinforce these concepts by sharing a science activity with your child. Weed the flowerbed together, and as you dig up dandelions point out the plant's roots, leaves, stem and seeds. Dissect a tulip together, and show your child the petals, stamens and pistil. While in the flowerbed, look for worms and bees and talk about their role in the garden. In preschool, science activities utilize the senses, so be sure to encourage your child to touch, smell and observe. Kids' toys and games, such as bug jars and magnifying glasses, are excellent tools for future flowerbed science activities.
