Learn the letter sounds
One great way to reinforce letter-sound associations is to practice reading words in phonetically regular patterns. Simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words that have the same vowel sound (cat, hat, mat, rat) are shown to affect the reliability of a child's hearing the medial sound in the word. Working on each vowel separately will prepare your child for beginning to read, especially for vowels they relate to, such as those found in their name. Besides, rhyming is fun!
